Nne – The Role of Nne in Igbo Family
In Igbo culture, Nne (mother) is more than just the woman who gives birth—she is the heart of the family, a nurturer, a teacher, and a custodian of tradition. The role of a mother extends beyond raising children; she is responsible for instilling discipline, teaching cultural values, and ensuring harmony within the home.
A mother’s influence shapes not just her children but also the entire lineage, as she plays a key role in transmitting Igbo traditions, language, and moral values. Igbo society places great respect on mothers, with phrases like “Nneka” (Mother is supreme) emphasizing her importance in both family and community life.
